Should you paint a radiator to colour match the room?

It's a question we often get asked and a question we ask ourselves also. Should you paint a radiator to match the colour of your room? Over the years our opinion has changed and here are some things to consider, if you are thinking about painting the radiator in your home.

Painted radiator

The first and main consideration is the condition of your radiator. Is your radiator new or in very good condition? If it is, then we would recommend that you do NOT get it painted. A new radiator will stay looking fresher for longer. Although paint technology has come a long way in recent year, it will not be as durable as a new radiator. Therefore, if you have a new radiator in good condition, resist the urge to paint.

The next thing to consider is the development of paints and paint spraying technology. Modern paints are far more durable than their old counterparts. Therefor your radiator will last longer. This combined with new paint spraying technology which also leaves a smoother finished means your radiators can be painted with that factory look finish.

Is you radiator looking a little worse for wear? In this case then definitely paint your radiator. However, we would suggest you proceed with caution and hire a professional to carry out the work. We have seen plenty of poor radiator finishes in our time and there is one thing to detract from a room and this is it. Talk to a professional painter and decorator and as them to help you on this one. They understand the process, the paints and the techniques to leave a perfect finish.

Lastly design. If you have a hall, stairs and landing in white with a black hand rail then one thing that will certainly add extra impact is a black radiator. We've done a number of rooms to this design and it looks great. Have a look at some of the pictures in this article and on the internet and see what you think.......
