Your home needs decorating but you can't face doing it yourself so, the first thought that comes into your head is how much does a painter and decorator cost? Firstly let's look at a few different factors. The first being location. Obviously London is going to cost more than Scotland. For these examples we will be using prices in the midlands as they should be around average. Also, all the prices will INCLUDE paint. All decorators price differently but ourselves always include all paint and materials so this is how we will look at this costs for this article also.
How much to paint a living room?
A common room to decorate os a living. It's one of the easier rooms to decorate as access is good and there aren't too many obstacles. For a standard type living room to paint ceiling, walls, skirting, two doors and a window sill would generally cost in the region of £600 (including paint). Now two living rooms are not this same but this is generally a good starting point. Obviously if the room is large or there are more doors or windows, then the price will increase.
How much to paint a bedroom?
So a large bedroom will cost the same as the living room we mentioned above. For a small "box room" the cost could be around £350 ,which again would be for ceiling, walls, skirting and one door.
How much to paint a Hall, Stairs and Landing?
We actually have a separate article on there you can find here which will talk you through all the options and prices however, let's look at the basics. For a small hall, stairs and landing with ceilings and walls only, you can be expecting to pay around £850. Obviously the stairs are a more difficult task, than to paint a bedroom for instance. We will say each hall, stairs and landing has it own challenges and no two are the same, so the prices are very generalised. Now to paint the ceiling, walls, skirting, doors and balustrade would be around £1400. This would also take around 1 week to complete as there is usually a lot of wood work to paint in a HSL.
